TRANSGENDER HAIR RESTORATION

Professional appliance repair service in Phoenix, Scottsdale & Mesa

Hair transplantation is a vital part of gender reassignment

For transgender patients, one of the final touches and crowning enhancements to the change they have worked for so long is proper hair restoration.

Whether it’s creating a feminine hairline, filling in a bald area, or adding masculine facial hair, no transgender transformation is complete without the right hair restoration.

Dr. Kelemen understands the sensitive nature of these transformations and strives to make Hair 4 Life an office that all her patients can feel comfortable and welcome in.

MALE TO FEMALE (MTF) TRANSFORMATION

For male-to-female transformation, hair restoration can be a personal image-saver.  Understanding the difference in male and female hairlines is of the utmost importance in hair restoration and especially in the male to the female transformation process.

Male and female hairlines are very different.  Male hairlines tend to recede up and move toward the crown, and female hairlines curve down and are more rounded.

Correcting a hairline can be a defining moment in any male-to-female transformation as a receding hairline does not look feminine and can pose a challenge for the transgender patient.

With hair transplants, you can eliminate the need for wigs or hairpieces and the constant worry and self-consciousness that comes with them.  Gone is the concern over being caught in the wind or otherwise exposing an unwanted hairline.

Most trans women want to be able to grow their own hair and be able to style their hair in any way that they desire.  By using your own permanent hair, you are given the option to style, cut, and color your hair in any way that you desire for your gender and your individual tastes.

Some male to female patients chooses to also have facial feminization surgery to soften the facial structure.  Dr. Kelemen recommends having this performed prior to any hair restoration procedure so that any scarring may be considered when designing the new feminine hairline and not risk damage to any newly transplanted hairs.

Estrogen therapy can help stabilize hair loss and a receding hairline but cannot grow back hair that has already been lost, or create a female hairline; for this, you need surgical hair restoration like that provided by Dr. Kelemen.

If you look closely, you can see that women and men of all ages have different hairlines.  Women have a more rounded line, and the hair doesn’t recede at the temples. Men have a far different shape to their hairline. This is part of what establishes the male or female appearance.

Hair transplantation can feminize, creating a hairline that enhances female features.

FEMALE TO MALE (FTM) TRANSFORMATION

Hair on the face is a strikingly male trait. It increases the appearance of adult masculinity.

For a female to male transformation, testosterone treatments can give some much-needed facial hair growth.  However, in many cases, this hormone therapy does not result in sufficient hair volume and is not adequate to grow sideburns, a beard, or a mustache.  Testosterone can also cause balding and or thinning of the scalp hair.

Transgender hair restoration can replace any balding or thinning spots on the face and enhance the look of masculinity by giving the patient the perfect amount of facial hair.

No matter the amount or style of facial hair you desire, Dr. Kelemen will be glad to work with you on achieving the exact appearance you are looking for.

With facial hair restoration, you can choose how much facial hair you would like.  From a full beard that covers the cheeks, chin, and sideburns to a goatee or just a mustache.  The possibilities are open to what a patient desires.

Adding facial hair can make a world of difference in how a transgender patient feels on the inside and out.  It can be the final outward sign that the transformation from male to male is complete.

Depending on your timeline, you may want to investigate hair restoration early in your transformation, since it can take up to a year to see the final results.

Dr. Kelemen takes great care in making sure your transgender hair restoration is exactly right for you and who you really feel you are.

HOW MUCH DOES TRANSGENDER HAIR TRANSFORMATION COST?

We recognize that by the time you get to see Dr. Kelemen, you will probably already have spent a significant amount of money to change your appearance. Surgery, hormone therapy, counseling fees, and more do not come cheap. While you may be tempted to turn to products that promise to grow you more hair in various places, many are not worth it because they aren’t very effective.

Your best bet when increasing hair in an area is a hair transplant. You may be interested in finding out how much this will cost. While we would like to be as upfront as possible with you, there is no simple answer to that because there are many factors that will influence the final cost.

Hair transplants can cost anywhere from four to fifteen thousand dollars. Because it is considered a cosmetic procedure, most health insurance companies will not pay for it.

The price also varies according to:

  • The area you live in. Surgeons’ charges differ depending on the affluence of the area they’re operating in and how many other surgeons there are in the area doing the same procedures. Charges also vary depending on whether they use old equipment or modern technology.
  • What kind of procedure do you pick? Follicular unit transplantation (FUT) or follicular unit extraction (FUE) have different costs.
  • The skill of your surgeon. There is an old saying, “You get what you pay for.” Some things just aren’t worth paying budget prices for.
  • The amount of hair you wish to be transplanted. Amount of hair loss you may have sustained prior to your transformation. Just needing a thin area filled in is a lot cheaper than needing a huge bald area filled in.

OTHER COSTS YOU SHOULD CONSIDER:

  • Bear in mind any traveling expenses to get to and from your clinic of choice.
  • You will probably need to buy pain relief medication, anti-inflammatories to reduce swelling, and antibiotics to prevent infection.
