Hair Restoration & Beard Transplant in Scottsdale

If your beard or mustache is lacking in the thickness department, you want it to be higher on the cheek area, you’re tired of seeing weak patches of hair in your beard or you have just never been able to grow a beard or mustache, you could be a good candidate for a beard transplant.

Growing or having a beard can be a sign of masculinity for many men. While too many men get defeated by these patches, it’s not a roadblock that can’t be conquered.

Growing a beard naturally might not be in the cards for all men, but innovations in the medical and aesthetics world have made it possible for most men to grow a beard and mustache with the help of a beard transplant in Scottsdale.

If you’re dealing with a thin or patchy beard/mustache, you’d probably like to fix it ASAP!

What is a Beard/Mustache Transplant?

Essentially, a beard/mustache transplant is what it sounds like. Healthy hair from the back of a patient’s scalp is removed by either an FUE or FUT procedure (the technique is chosen based on the patient’s needs and desires). This hair is then prepared by the doctor and her staff for placement in the beard and mustache areas.

The doctor spends a great deal of time with the patient to design the exact area that the patient wants their facial hair. The doctor will make very tiny incisions at very specific angels and directions to match the patient’s existing hair. The new hairs will then be placed into these new sites. Soon enough the patient will see permanent hair growth and the facial hair they have been dreaming of.

In the average facial hair transplant, you can get about 4000 hair follicles grafted onto the beard. This varies depending on the amount of existing facial hair and the design that the patient desires. Some patients even choose to come back for a second procedure for even more density in the future.

A lot of the time, though, only about 2,500 follicles are necessary for a full beard.

These newly transplanted hairs are permanent and can be treated just like any other facial hair. A patient is able to shave it to the skin, can grow a 5 O’clock shadow or even grow a long luscious beard if they want to. The sky’s the limit.

Why should you consider a beard transplant?

Here are some of the pros of going for the procedure:

PROS

According to several studies, beards are attractive to women for a number of reasons. These include:

  • Beards imply security and strength. Studies show that beards can make men seem stronger and more capable of providing security.
  • Beards imply intelligence. Hemingway, Einstein, need we say more? The historical presence of beards on intelligent men is notable.
  • Beards imply a balance of edginess and sensitivity. Beards somehow exude a combination of both “toughness” and sensitivity.
  • Beards imply confidence. Not only do beards imply confidence from the perspective of the viewer, but they also instill confidence in the beard-haver.
  • Permanent. Will continue to grow for the rest of your lifetime.
  • Painless. While reading the description of the procedure might not sound fun, the reality is that its’ virtually pain-free due to the minimal invasion and innovations in medicine. The worst discomfort you may feel is a small pinch during the initial anesthesia.
  • Beard transplants aren’t limited to just the lower facial area, you can design the beard that you have always wanted and shape it however you want.
  • Beard transplants don’t require very much recovery time. At Hair 4 Life, Dr. Kelemen’s post-operative protocol ensures quick healing with minimal scarring, usually in 3-5 days.
  • Other than light redness or swelling a few days following the transplant, there are virtually no side effects.

How will my beard feel?

It acts as a normal beard. After the transplant fully heals, it should grow and act just like normal hair.

You’ll be able to grow your beard faster, style and trim it as normal! That’s the whole point!

CONS

Of course, with every medical procedure, there are a few downsides.

  • It’s not cheap. Beard transplants in Scottsdale might put a strain on the wallet, which makes some men too intimidated to try it. Saving up is a good idea to make it more affordable and at Hair 4 Life we are able to offer a financing payment plan to make it feasible for all patients (through a 3rd party financing company).
  • Hair is transplanted from the back of your scalp, since that hair is closest to the texture of facial hair. A few hidden spots in the back of the head doesn’t show much, and it’s usually worth it for the nice, full beard.
  • Hair is transplanted from the back of your scalp, since that hair is closest to the texture of facial hair. A few hidden spots in the back of the head doesn’t show much, and it’s usually worth it for the nice, full beard.

Dr. Kelemen will be able to help you better understand the time frame of re-growth, but don’t worry, it will come back!

It’s all part of the process to get a thick new beard.

How Much Does a Beard Transplant in Scottsdale Cost?

  • Now that you understand the detailed process of what a beard transplant is, it’s probably no surprise that it’s an expensive procedure.
  • Then again, when you compare this treatment to other aesthetic procedures we partake in as humans in order to enhance our looks and feel better about ourselves, it’s not out of place.
  • If having a thick and healthy beard is important to you, you should never feel bad about the decision to undergo a beard transplant.
  • While the total cost isn’t the most important thing, it’ll be well worth the investment to be happy with what you see in the mirror every morning.
  • Depending on the clinic and the doctor you end up choosing, you should be prepared to pay anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000 for a quality beard transplant in Scottsdale.

  • It’s definitely possible to find cheaper options elsewhere, but for a procedure performed by a reputable beard transplant clinic that has produced successful results, you won’t want to pay much less than this. Since your face is what everyone sees and a bad beard or mustache transplant can not be hidden, it is extremely important to go to someone that is experienced in performing this procedure. You do not want to take a chance on someone that is not experienced in this.
  • Prices may be affected by grafts needed, procedure used to remove the donor hair (FUE or FUT), number of sessions required and consultations fees, among others.
  • Some beard transplant clinics will charge by how many facial grafts you need (usually the most effective price model), while some will charge by the number of sessions needed to complete the transplanted hairs process.
  • Others may charge a hefty initial consultation fee, which may be avoided by doing research ahead of time. We at Hair 4 Life do not charge a consultation fee and you are always seen by Dr. Kelemen personally.
  • While this does work out to be a pretty expensive ordeal, it’s an investment.
Spending a lower amount will only result in shoddy work, short-lived results or unhappiness with the final result.
You want your beard to be in the best hands and you get what you pay for.

Dr. Kelemen has 19 years of experience, and she can and does perform every step of the surgery hand in hand with the technicians, the medical assistants and the nurses. Dr. Kelemen loves teaching her staff and loves educating the patients. Dr. Kelemen is an excellent communicator and is fluent in four languages. Why H4L? Because this is the clinic where YOU come first, and YOU will receive the best preoperative and postoperative care. We treat everyone like family!

Male pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia) is responsible for most hair loss. In fact, over 50% of men over 50 will be affected by it. It is usually genetic and not much can be done to prevent it. In a few cases, baldness may be caused by other factors such as diet, stress, hormone imbalances, illness, or certain medicines such as anabolic steroids.

Despite what the marketers of various miracle creams, shampoos, and gels tell you, these don’t work. There are several medical modalities to help stop and or slow down hair loss but they will not restore any follicles to bald areas. The good news is that the bald area can be restored with hair restoration techniques.

Having a hair restoration procedure is a tremendous boost for a person’s self-confidence. Some who may benefit from it are:

You are not a good candidate for the procedure if:

  • You’re a woman with hair loss all over the scalp
  • You don’t have enough donor area from which hair can be transplanted
  • You are someone who develops keloid scarring post-injury
  • Your hair loss is due to chemotherapy, scarring alopecia’s or alopecia areata

ARTAS robotic hair transplant is recommended to almost all the patients that suffer from androgenetic alopecia. If you have straight hair and are looking to have the length of your hair in the back short, then this procedure is for you. If you are looking for a less invasive procedure, then robotic ARTAS is for you! If you are looking for getting your hair back in a natural way, then this procedure is for you! If you are looking for a fast healing with less post operative pain, then this procedure is for you! We add mild hyperbaric therapy that is proven to help the patient heal faster with less scaring!

The other factor that sets us apart from the rest is our small staff, which ensures uniform results vs offices that employ a large number of assistants that yield varying types of trimmed grafts.

You should choose H4L for your robotic procedure because this is the clinic in which the staff is certified by ARTAS to perform the procedure; because the staff at H4L has 14 years’ experience with the robot, we are the pioneers with ARTAS. At H4L we use the most up to date software.  At H4L Dr. Kelemen is the one that checks each graft as the robot harvests. Then, she is the one that places the grafts along with her assistants. The procedure is done in ONE day compared to other clinics where the surgery is done in two days! Dr. Kelemen’s experience, garnered over 20 years in the hair transplant field, translates in an operational flow that results in less time for the procedure and minimizes the exposure to drugs and anesthesia!

Some medications are not compatible with hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Each drug you are taking will be considered individually in relation to HBO therapy. Any changes in your current medication will be discussed with your referring physician.

Cosmetics, hair sprays, nail polish, deodorants, or shaving lotions containing a petroleum or alcohol base are not allowed during hyperbaric oxygen treatments. However, you may apply these products after treatment. Please notify the nurse/technician if you have applied skin products prior to treatment. The staff will answer any questions you may have regarding products that are allowed in the chamber.

Regenera Activa is the latest FDA approved treatment that enters the market with the promise of being different from frustrating hair growth treatment packages.

It is also a minimally invasive option for patients suffering from androgenetic alopecia(male and female pattern hair loss), who are in their beginning of their hair loss.

This 3 step process uses your own hair grafts that are taken from areas of the scalp that are unaffected by hair loss. The hair grafts are processed by the Regenera Activa system to separate the progenitor cells that are derivatives of the hair stem cells. The fluid obtained by the regenera activa is rich in growth factors, progenitor cells and signaling molecules. This fluid, once injected in the areas of hair loss, will stimulate the existing hairs to become thicker, healthier, fuller and will strengthen the miniaturized hairs.
Overall the procedure takes about 45 minutes.

When it comes to Regenera Activa vs Injectables, the critical difference lies in their origin of extraction, Blood vs Hair Grafts.

Both treatments use growth factors, but Regenera Activa adds the progenitor hair cells that are more precise target to the hair follicles that other injectables.

One percent of patients taking Propecia, or the generic form Finasteride, may experience side effects like impotence, decreased libido, hypotension, abnormal ejaculation, sexual dysfunction, gynecomastia, mental fogginess. At H4L we educate the patient about alternative forms to stop their hair loss, ie laser cap, injectables, Regenera Activa, Rogaine….

Definitely! Body hair can be successfully transferred to scalp by an experienced physician. At H4L Dr. Kelemen is performing body hair transplant using the FUE method (follicular unit excision method). Our WAW system is very precise and has very low transection rate. Follicular units in body hair are mostly one and two hair grafts. We recommend body hair transplant to patients that need to fill in for more density, for crowns and also for scar camouflage that have exhausted their donor area of their back of their head.

The type of patients that we do not recommend FUE procedure are the ones with very limited donor size! At H4L, we offer all three types of FUE: ARTAS Robotic, WAW motorized system and manual. Each of these have its strengths and weakness and Dr. Kelemen firmly believes that there is no one size  fits all. Her main goal is to obtain the best grafts without over harvesting the donor area.

Curly hair is the most difficult for FUE! The robot cannot move along the bend of the curl and has a high risk of transaction. The WAW motorized system can be maneuvered by a skilled physician like Dr. Kelemen to extract the grafts intact without damaging any of its structure.

Yes. Your treatment can be combined with other hair loss treatments like injectables and topical finasteride for a more superior outcome. It is common for patients to reduce their dosage of DHT-blockers after their Regenera Activa treatment.

Follicular unit extraction (FUE). This approach is done by harvesting complete follicular units one at a time from the donor area. FUE is less painful, which may explain why it’s the more commonly performed procedure. Also, there are no stitches and no linear scar, making the patient more comfortable and able to resume their previous activities in less then a week. allows patients to have a shorter hair cut compared to FUT, since there is no visible long linear scar, but tiny circular scars very easy to hide under a short haircut.

Follicular unit transplantation (FUT). With this approach Dr. Kelemen harvests the tissue from the back of the head. Stitches are applied and then are removed 14 days after the procedure. A fine, linear scar will be permanent at the back of the head. The length of hair about 3 cm will be needed to cover the scar. The patient is able to return to previous activities 14 days later, after the sutures are removed.

Simply a hybrid treatment/solution means Dr. Kelemen may combine ARTAS with WAW system; or use injectables and Regenera Activa; if a hair transplant does not yield sufficient grafts from the scalp, Dr. Kelemen can extract hair from the body to fill in/or SMP.
